Build These Habits to Become a Peak Performer

Athena Coaching, Linda MurraySuccessful people are successful for a reason. While there is some debate about whether leaders and successful people are born or made, there are some very common traits shared by those who have achieved success.

If you’re determined to reach your peak and beyond, building these habits will put you up there with the most successful entrepreneurs in the world.

Set your goals

We all know goal setting is an essential step on the path to success. The difference between the mediocre and the successful is that those at the top not only set their goals, they set them high and they are very clear about what they’re after and where they’re headed.

Being specific is essential, so it is important you utilise the SMART rules of goal setting:  specific,  measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound. Be SMART, be clear, and aim for the stars!

Check your environment

Are you surrounded by people who follow the pack or who constantly whine or discourage you? Or are you surrounding yourself with people who take action, who are positive and powerful, and in control of their lives?

Engage yourself with those who will lift you. Attend networking events and forums, and ingratiate yourself into groups of those you strive to be like – and better.

Be present

Be present. Focus. Be mindful. Whichever one sits best with you, be that person. Successful people focus on one thing, and one thing only. They do this not only in the action they take, but also in their thoughts.

They don’t worry about “what if” or what else is going on in other areas of their lives. They are present, mindful, and focussed on the task at hand. Giving it full attention, without distraction, provides the opportunity for the greatest success.

Take the steps

Every day do something towards your goal. Goal setting is merely the first step, and writing the goals won’t get you anywhere without taking the action to achieve them.

Form the habit of taking action every single day towards that goal. You’ve been clear about it, and you know what to do. So go do it!

Work hard, work often, and don’t stop till you’ve reached the top! Then repeat the process.

Remain humble

Worrying about what other people think, failure, or about making mistakes will only distract you from being present in your steps towards success.  Also it is something that successful people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about.

Practice being in the present, but also practice being humble. Admit your mistakes, take responsibility, see failure as a learning experience, accept compliments, and view criticisms as constructive advice.

Successful people have no ego, and they don’t beat themselves up when things go wrong. They accept it as part of the journey, learn from it, take responsibility for their actions and carry on.

The first step in becoming successful and performing at your peak is to just do it! Reach those goals and be successful; form the habits now and you’ll be that peak performer of your dreams before you know it.
